Strive to include all students in everything
The type of classroom environment that a teacher creates and encourages can either increase or decrease a student's ability to learn and feel comfortable as a member of the class.
Cold Call
 

In order to make engaged participation the expectation, call on students regardless of whether they have raised their hands. Give students as many opportunities as possible.

 
Wait for Answers

 

Be patient and give students time to respond to answer a question before moving onto another student or explaining the answer yourself.
