Have students run discussions as much as possible
One of the most important goals as teachers is to cause students to do as much of the cognitive work - the writing, the thinking, the analyzing, the talking - as possible.
Deflect to Others

Facilitate discussions by asking students “Why” questions, and then deflecting their answer to other students by asking them if they agree or disagree. Avoid adding your input until the end.

Use Those That Know

Utilize the more talkative students to keep discussions going. Make sure to use that as a starting point to ask other students about their opinions as well.
